VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

with the not-for-profit Netherlands Association "Je Maintiendrai" (NAJM)

ACCORDION PLAYER: Play Dutch songs during the band intermissions at a Dinner/Dance. And/or represent the Netherlands and play solo or in a group on stage for 20 minutes at the European Festival on the last Saturday of May.

ADVERTISING: Spread the word about the Netherlands Association "Je Maintiendrai" (NAJM) via various means within the Greater Vancouver area. Contact newspapers, radio stations, &/or television stations regarding interviews and/or Dutch-Canadian events. Maintain a record of contacts and track the results.
AVONDMAAL: Host one or more of the Dutch conversation restaurant dinner evenings in Greater Vancouver.
BORRELAVOND: Host one or more of the 12 evenings in Vancouver.
CAR POOLING: Arrange car pooling to events for those members that require it.

CARD CLUBS: Get involved in any or all of the following: 1) Phone Klaverjas players to arrange seating at tables for monthly card games. 2) Recruit new Klaverjas card players. 3) Host a new Klaverjas card game event in your municipality. 4) Organize an annual or bi-annual Klaverjas Tournament. 5) Find sponsors for prizes &/or trophies.

CHOIR: Get involved with the formation of the Greater Vancouver Dutch Choir and sing Dutch songs at special events. Sing songs during the band intermissions at a Dinner/Dance. And/or represent the Netherlands on stage for 20 minutes at the European Festival on the last Saturday of May.

COFFEE CLUBS: Get involved with any or all of the following: 1) Assist with an existing weekly Coffee Club in Vancouver. 2) Spread the word about the Dutch-Canadian Coffee Clubs.

3) Host one or more of the 52 morning get togethers that take place in Vancouver each year. 4) Begin and/or host a new coffee club in a different Municipality.

DINNER-DANCES: For a dinner-dance, assist with any or all of the following: 1) The advance preparation of the Dinner-Dance.

2) Entertainment for the half-hour band intermission. 3) Purchasing, making &/or bringing decorations to the dinner-dance.

3) Decorating the dinner-dance hall. 4) Name-tags on the evening of the dance. 5) After dinner-dance clean-up.

DISTRIBUTION: Post flyers announcing events in prominent locations. Take flyers to specific businesses in the lower mainland.

DISPLAYS: Demonstrate your artistic talents! Get involved in any or all of the following: 1) Design a display.

2) Gather the materials for the display. 3) Create the display. 4) Transport the display. 5) Set-up the display.

6) Host the display at an event such as a Dinner-Dance &/or Festivals such as the European Festival in May.

6) Take-down the display. 7) Store the display.

DOOR PRIZES: Contact businesses for door prize / advertising exchanges.

EVENT PLANNER: Enable your ideas to grow & develop into special events which are enjoyed by the community. Get involved in any or all of the following: 2) Organize one or more new events such as: barbeque, bicycle ride, billiards, bowling, bus tour, card tournament, chess, children's event, drawing contest, fund raiser, golf, hike, ice skating, movie night, photo contest, picnic, poster contest, pot-luck lunch/dinner party, restaurant dinner, road rally, trip, a walk or any other event you think might be fun to organize. 3) Recruit volunteers for a new event.

EXECUTIVE: Become a Director-At-Large and assist in various capacities of your choice.

FESTIVALS: Volunteer for Europe Day which will take place on May 9th.

Volunteer for the Netherlands Booth at the European Festival which will take place on the last Saturday of May.

GRANTS: Research and apply for grants that the Netherlands Association "Je Maintiendrai" (NAJM) qualifies for.
INTERVIEWS: Record the stories of members &/or Dutch-Canadian businesses for inclusion in the newsletter web site, &/or the upcoming 50th Anniversary magazine/book.
KLOMPEN DANSEN: Dust off your wooden clogs and let's learn some old traditional Dutch dances. Join in and help to spread the word about this new group.

MEMBERSHIP: Get involved with any or all of the following: 1) Recruit new Dutch-Canadian members of all ages. 2) Keep the membership records up-to-date.

3) Contact members via the phone, mail &/or e-mail.

NAME TAGS: Make name tags for specific events &/or distribute them at the events.

NEWSLETTER: Gain experience and skills in communication. Get involved with any or all of the following:

1) Gather information to the monthly electronic newsletter. 2) Type the newsletters.

PHONING: Remind overdue NAJM members via the phone to renew their memberships & check for new e-mail addresses.
PHOTOGRAPER: Take photographs at NAJM events and submit them for publication on the Dutch Network web site. All your photographs will be acknowledged.
RECRUIT NEW VOLUNTEERS: Assist the Event Planner by recruiting new volunteers for a newly designed event.

RESEARCH: Survey what types of events the current Greater Vancouver Dutch-Canadian community is interested in.

Investigate new strategies to enable NAJM to grow and evolve.

SOCCER: Get involved with the formation of the Greater Vancouver Dutch Soccer Team, practice, and then compete at special events.

SPONSORSHIP: Research, contact and correspond with businesses for funding &/or sponsorship-in-kind for the events hosted by not-for-profit NAJM.

Maintain a record of contacts and track the results.

TALENT SCOUT: Locate individuals that would like to perform at dinner/dance intermissions or at the European Festival.

TICKET SALES: Assist in the sale of advance tickets dinner-dances hosted by not-for-profit NAJM.

Collect payment (checks only), maintain a record of sales, and deliver payment to the treasurer. Tickets are not sold at the door.

WEB SITE ASSISTANT: Get involved in some or all of the following activities in regards to the web site www.dutchnetwork.ca: 1) Provide feedback & suggestions to help the web site improve. 2) Check the web site regularly to ensure everything is up-to-date and working properly. 3) Display your web-design talents by designing elements that can be incorporated into the web site. 4) Spread the word about the web site. 5) Be the back-up person to keep the "Events" page up-to-date during the web master's absence. 6) Teach your web site design knowledge to the web master. Help to improve the communication within the Dutch-Canadian community!

ZONNESTRAAL: Get involved with any or all of the following: 1) Phone members to keep-up-to-date. 2) Send members get-well or sympathy cards.

3) Visit home or hospital-bound members. Gain the satisfaction of helping those in need.
