Saturday, March 6th: Carnaval Dutch Dinner & Dance at the Scandinavian Centre, 6540 Thomas Street in Burnaby. Doors open at 5:30pm, Dinner at 6:30pm, Dancing from 7:30pm to 11:00pm. There will be a delicious Buffet Dinner of Salmon, Chicken, & Roast Beef and much more! Kick up your heels on the dance floor or just sit back and enjoy the great melodies played by the Rheinlanders Band. There will be prizes for those with the most extravagant or outrageous costumes. Tuesday, March 16th: Vancouver Borrelavond. We will be meeting for drinks, snacks (or dinner), and lively Dutch conversation from 7pm to 10pm (or 12pm) at the Wicklow Pub (604-879-0821). The pub is located at 610 Stamps Landing in False Creek on the water's edge beside the Monk McQueen's Restaurant. Take the Moberly Street exit off 6th Avenue just west of the Cambie Street Bridge. Parking is $1 per hour and the lot is a 2 minute walk south of the pub. Please be sure to contact Claudia at 604-736-2870 or veenboom@mail2web.com if you plan to attend. Friday April 23rd: Fundraising Gala: a commemorative initiative to honour the 2010, 65th anniversaries of the liberation of The Netherlands and Victory in Europe ending the Second World War. Our larger vision is to create an annual west coast tourist destination, Enduring Friendships Tulip Festival, similar to Ottawa's. Sunday May 9th: Vancouver Sun Run & Dutch T-Shirts: Take part in the 10km Vancouver Sun Run as a member of our "Dutch Team" and receive a special "Keep in Touch with the Dutch" T-shirt to commemorate this fun occasion. We need a minimum of 10 people to register in order to qualify for this special "group" status. You can register on-line at www.vancouversun.com/sunrun. Saturday, May 29th, 2010: Come to the 13th Annual European Festival and savor the flavours of Europe right at your doorstep. Join in on the 15 hours of family fun, from 10am in the morning to 1am at night at the Scandinavian Centre at 6540 Thomas Street in Burnaby. See the swirling flags and colourful costumes in the Opening Ceremony parade; non-stop Stage performances; relax in the Food Tent & Beer Garden; Children's Tent activities; 32 Cultural Display booths; & the MarketPlace Tent. In the evening, dance up a storm to the energetic songs of a local band.
