Mondays, May 2nd & 23rd 2016: Dutch Preschool (Hollandse Peuter Groep): Given by a retired Kindergarten/Preschool teacher, for five children 2 to 5 years of age, usually on the 1st & 4th Monday of each month (except July & August), from 10am to 12pm (noon). There is story time, music, crafts and playtime, all in Dutch. There is a $3 charge per child for snacks and craft materials. The location is in north Surrey near King George & 96th Avenue. Saturday, May 21st 2016: The Dutch Bicycling Club will start their monthly rides with an enjoyable 22 km Bike Ride, for every level of performance, in the Vancouver area. We will get together at the Coal Harbor Community Centre at 480 Broughton. There will be plenty of parking at the Community Centre. Enter from Jervis for underground parking or Broughton for outside. Barbara & Peter will be at the Community Centre at 10.30am to greet everyone. The bike ride starts at 11am for an easy and beautiful ride around Stanley Park, English Bay towards the Science Centre and Granville Island. At Granville Island, we will have lunch at Cats Social Restaurant and continue with a ferry boat ride to the Hornby dock. From there we drive along English bay and back to Stanley park to the meeting place at Coal Harbor. We will be back sometime between 2pm and 3pm. "Dutchies" of course show their pride in their heritage by wearing the color "Oranje" and it will keep you safe on the road as well. Barbara & Peter will send out an e-mail reminder about 3 days before the event. If this bike trip needs to be cancelled due to poor weather conditions we will re-schedule for May 28th, same time, same place. Saturday & Sunday May 28th & 29th 2016: Come to the 19th Annual European Festival and savor the flavours of Europe right at your doorstep. Join in on the 12 hours of family fun s on Saturday from 11am in the morning to 11pm at night in Burnaby at the Swangard Stadium (Kingsway & Boundary Road). Sunday times are 11am to 9pm. See the swirling flags and colourful costumes in the Opening Ceremony parade; non-stop Stage performances; relax in the Food Tent & Beer Garden; Children's Tent activities; Cultural Display booths; & the MarketPlace Tent. Saturday, June 18th 2016: The Dutch Biking Club will ride in southwest Richmond. Helen will be there to greet everyone at 10:30am at the Garry Point Park parking lot (west of Steveston village) near the concession stand. (Between Chatham and Moncton Street on 7th Avenue) Parking is free. The ride will start at 11:00am and will follow the dyke north on a good hard-packed gravel surface until No. 2 Road. we will cross the No. 2 Road bridge and follow the Fraser River Arm west to the Flying Beaver Restaurant for lunch. We return via the same route. Enjoy beautiful views of Vancouver and the Georgia Straight along saltwater marshes. "Dutchies" of course show their pride in their heritage by wearing the color "Oranje" and it will keep you safe on the road as well. Saturday, June 25th 2016: "Art Under Foot" a Mosaic Art Tiles walking tour in downtown Vancouver. Meet at 10:30am by the Starbucks which is inside the Waterfront Station at 601 Cordova. The tour will go ahead rain or shine, so please dress according to the weather. The tour is free. If 6 or more people are interested, we can go for Dim Sum lunch after the walk at the Floata Seafood Restaurant in China Town at 400 - 180 Keefer Street. For those that prefer Dim Sum only (without the walk) you are welcome to join us. The cost will depend upon what is ordered. Participants at each table will split the food cost and tip evenly. The exact time for Dim sum lunch will depend on the conclusion of the walk, however, we will aim for around 12:30pm. Saturday, July 2016 (date TBA): The Dutch Bicyclers will be peddling 29 km along the dikes of the Fraser River and the Pitt River in Pitt Meadows. Everyone that loves bicycling is welcome. Starting at the south end of Harris Road at Harris Landing (Fraser Road & Harris Road). There is good free parking. Luke Schouten will be wearing orange and will be greeting everyone at 10:30am at the parking lot. The group will leave at 11am and have lunch at the Pitt Meadows Golf Club. We will follow the Fraser River west and Pitt River north under the new Lougheed Highway bridge, then back to Harris Road bridge which crosses over the Allouette River and then west to the Pitt River "Dyke" trail, until we meet the intersection with Harris Road. From there, we go south to Pitt Meadows Golf Club for lunch. After that, we go back and follow the Pitt River and Fraser River Dikes to Harris Landing. Note that the dike trails are made of gravel and good bike tires are required. "Dutchies" of course show their pride in their heritage by wearing the color "Oranje" and it will keep you safe on the road as well. Monday, August 15th 2016: Dodenherdenking. To commemorate the end of World War II, to remember the sacrifices of the liberating armies, notably the Canadian army, of which thousands gave their lives to allow us to live in peace and freedom. You are invited to join us for this Remembrance Day service at the George Derby Centre at 7550 Cumberland Street in Burnaby. Details will be announced as they become available. Saturday, August 20th 2016: The Dutch Bicycling Club has a beautiful ride scheduled from Mud Bay Park to Tsawassen, with lunch at Petra's Cafe, there and back. The total distance is 40km of flat road bed. Awesome views and wild flowers along a gravel and also asphalt bicycle trail make this one of the very best bicycling experiences in the Vancouver area. The "orange shirts" will start at 11am from Mud Bay Park. Jeanette will be there to greet everyone at 10:30am. How to get there: From 152nd Street in Surrey going south to Colebrook Road and turn right. (This is close to White Rock) Follow Colebrook Road west to 127A Street and turn left. To the left again is Railway Road (You are now in the park) Follow Railway Road as it goes under Highway #99. Here you will see the Parking Lot from where we will start our ride. Note: All bicyclers will be asked to sign a liability waiver just before the ride begins. Please check your tires before you participate in this event. Worn tires will not get you to Tsawassen and that would also spoil the experience for the rest of the group. All bicyclers that have registered their e-mail address with Jeanette will receive a reminder by e-mail 3 days before the ride is scheduled. If the weather conditions are poor, this ride will be cancelled and rescheduled for Saturday August 27th, same time and place. In event of cancellation only, Jeanette will notify everyone (on her e-mail list) on Saturday August 20th at 8.30am in the morning. Saturday, September 17th 2016: The Dutch Biking Club is going to Barnston Island in Surrey for an easy and fun bicycle ride for the whole family. We will meet at the parking lot of the Barnston Ferry (free of charge) before 11am and take the following ferry over to the island. With very little local traffic, this is a safe ride over paved roads. Beautiful scenery of farmlands and the mighty Fraser River. It is a 10km ride around the island, so some of you might like to go twice or do a figure 8, riding the mid-island road also that connects the north and south road. There will be a pancake lunch at the picnic area provided with a cover charge of $5 per person. Luke's car will be on the road marking the lunch location. From there, it is a small walk into the park and the picnic area. When you come from the freeway you will turn north on 176th Street and follow this road. Then, turn right onto 104th Avenue and cross the railway tracks. You pass along a lumber mill and to your left is the parking lot. Someone will be there to greet you from 10:30am and forward. "Dutchies" of course show their pride in their heritage by wearing the color "Oranje" and it will keep you safe on the road as well. If this bike trip needs to be cancelled due to poor weather conditions we will re-schedule for September 24th, same time, same place. Saturday, November 26th 2016: Welcome Sinterklaas! The Sinterklaas Committee is once again preparing for a very large, private, indoor, Dutch celebration to greet Sint Nicolaas as he arrives in south Langley. There will be traditional Dutch food, games, music & songs, photos with Sinterklaas, and Door Prizes! There will even be opportunities to have Sinterklaas personally give your gift wrapped present to your child. Admission tickets are available for purchase at www.sint.ca. More details will be regularly updated there and on FaceBook at "Sinterklaas BC". So be sure to keep this day free for this very special event!

 

Saturday, December 10th 2016: Pot-Luck Lunch & Christmas Table Centerpiece Making in Surrey: Jeanette van Hattem will be hosting this event from 11am to 3pm, location TBA. The event is free. Participants should bring all their own supplies such as: a wet-able oasis, a small container, pruners, gloves, some greenery, a candle holder and candle. If necessary, it might be possible to purchase a few supplies from Jeanette. There is space for a maximum of 12 participants, so please be sure to pre-register with Jeanette at 604-572-8302 or froghollowchildcare@shaw.ca.

Each family should bring their own bag of eggs (to hide) as well as a dish of food to share for the Pot-Luck lunch. Sunday, March 2017 (Date TBA): Enjoy a Lunch Buffet with Horse Racing Entertainment, 12:00pm to 4:00pm, at Fraser Downs in Cloverdale, Surrey. This is an event that the whole family can enjoy. There are floor to ceiling windows and each table in the "Homestretch" dinning area also has an individual small TV screen to see the horses even closer. Doors open: 11:45pm. Buffett: 12:15pm to 2:15pm, includes salad bar, hot dishes, roast meat, and a choice of 2 from an array of desserts. Races take place from 12:45pm to 4:00pm. Watch 9 to 12 live exciting horse races and place a wager if you feel so inclined.

$30 per person includes the buffet, non-alcoholic beverages (tea, coffee, juice, or pop), 3 programs per table to share, tip & HST.

Admission for children, 10 years or younger is $15 each. Reservations and pre-payment are required. 

We will reserve 5 tables for 6 people each, so there will be room for 30 people.

10 June - 10 July 2018: UEFA Euro 2016: Qualifying Draw.  Join us to cheer on the Dutch soccer team at the Gateway Grill (inside the Starlight Casino) in New Westminster with a 25 feet screen, 350 Gifford Street, (off Westminster Hwy by NE Richmond, Queensborough Connecter, and close to Queensborough Landing Shopping Mall).
