The Lost Sister of
Groningen: It's
1942 and the world is changing. You
are born into a country occupied by
foreign forces. Your Father is
working for the enemy, and your
Mother is sleeping with the enemy.
This is a world where you are never
certain whether there will be food
on the table, or a place to sleep.
Until one day, the promise of a new
country gives you hope and security.
Only to be betrayed all over again
by her elder sister, a young girl at
the tender age of thirteen, is
abandoned in Australia without a
guardian, without language and with
little hope to begin again. She will
have to do everything in her power
to survive on her own, and overcome
broken promises. Meet Anneke, as she
resists a past that relentlessly
keeps breaking through her memory.
Determined to defy the cycle of
poverty, and abandonment, she
changes her luck through her own
achievements, bringing optimism and
joy back into her life. Told through
narrative and poetry, this work has
beautiful artwork produced by
Malcolm Jones, throughout the book.
The book focuses on war, migration
and family. It is the story of my
mother Anneke Suiding now Jones.The
novel spans 100 years and is set in
the Netherlands and Australia. Nell
Jones (Author),

16) Friesland Connects: I am working for Fryslân Ferbynt. It is our mission to ‘connect’ Frisians worldwide. In the past, lots of people from Friesland emigrated to Canada. We are preparing to organize five international events in 2011 (currently we are organizing the first ‘Frisian Event’ which is in New Zealand) and therefore we would like to expand our network of people in Canada who might find this interesting. We would like to get in touch with people from Canada who feel/are connected with the Netherlands and with Friesland in particular. We look forward hearing from you. With kind regards, Marjanne Dijkstra, Fryslân Ferbynt, + 31(0)58 294 1624, marjanne.dijkstra@fryslanferbynt.nl, www.fryslanferbynt.nl |
